Green Light for Strike Ballot

Yesterday Unison's National Industrial Action Committee unanimously authorised the request for a strike ballot over Local Government Pay.

The indicative timescale is that the ballot will take place in October, with the first day of industrial action taking place sometime mid November, if (or should I say when)we get a yes vote. Any action is likely to be in co-ordination with other public sector unions who are also balloting for strike action, such as Unite (old T&G/Amicus)and the PCS (civil servants union).

What are we hoping to gain?? 3 % 3.5?? will it be worth several days lost pay? I doubt it. More than likely we'll get shafted by national committee :(

This strike ballot is supported by the National Committee :)

Our claim was 5% but inflation is running at 3.5 - 4%. Therefore anything less would be a pay cut to our members.

You also need to remember any rise in overall pay impacts on future year pay claims and shouldn't just be seen in the value this year, but also future years.

Seeing as we all haven't had our pay rise this year, any pay lost from taking strike action could be off set with our back pay.
